{Unintended} Walk in the Rain

(first of all - what's with this new Blogger format??)

Since the VW is in a coma, I've been without wheels.  My options are to borrow Nate's car when he's not using it, take mass transit or walk.  For tonight's activities walking was the only option according to Mapquest since the car wasn't available.

No problem.  Urban was at a friend's house and I love to walk!  I packed my backpack with a notebook, a novel, a snack, water, camera and a raincoat since I had heard thunder and there were dark clouds above.

According to Mapquest, my journey on foot would take about 47 minutes each way.  I thought I'd set off early since the lecture I was going to was held in a library, I figured I would peruse the shelves while waiting for the appointed time.

I made it six blocks before the skies dropped huge drops and another two blocks before I pulled out the smartly packed rain coat. *  For reference later in this post, click on the link for rain coat to refresh yourself of the purpose/intent of a rain coat.

As I walked toward my destination I was rehearsing my apologies and excuses in my head for arriving to the lecture in wet shorts.  A few blocks more and I realized that there would be NO explaining my appearance so I decided to turn around and go back home.  I had made it to Wash Park, a little over 1 mile.

The beauty of the rain and the smell of saturated earth kept me from being too disappointed about missing my meeting.  The rain was warm and I've always loved a good rain storm.  I was like a kid jumping in the puddles - I was just a little more discrete.

I couldn't help laugh to myself at how drenched I was getting!  I decided to pull out my camera and snap some shots of the torrents.

I LOVED the puddles until I almost slipped on some mud underneath.
I became a little more cautious.

Flood coming down the street as I stepped off a curb to cross.

OK, remember the 'rain coat' reference?  Let me tell you that THIS rain coat is NOT "water-repellent" as described on the tag.  Nor was my back pack, nor was my novel or note book.  My phone seems to have had water related issues too, though it was in my pocket.

No matter!

Next time I see rain clouds, I'll head out for another walk!

I love your story and pictures. I love the rain also as long as it is not cold. Urban would of had a ball with you.
